Susan Byerly
Susan Byerly was a 2016 Democratic candidate for District 12 of the North Carolina State Senate.
Byerly was a 2014 Democratic candidate for District 53 of the North Carolina House of Representatives.
Biography
Byerly earned her undergraduate degree from Campbell University, her master’s degree from East Carolina University and her doctorate from Fayetteville State University. Her professional experience includes working as a teacher, principal, adjunct professor and as Hospice Care Coordinator for Community Home Care and Hospice.[1]

On her campaign website, Byerly says she running for the following reasons:[1]
- Excerpt: "AND YOU KNOW WHY I AM RUNNING: to represent those who must work so hard to make a living, those who make so little and those who have little or no hope and depend on the public school to provide a sound education for their children. I am running to represent the students, the teachers and the parents of Harnett County where the per capita spending on education per child is one of the lowest in the state."

Elections for the North Carolina State Senate took place in 2016. The primary election was held on March 15, 2016, and the general election was held on November 8, 2016.[2] The candidate filing deadline was December 21, 2015.[3]
Incumbent Ronald Rabin defeated Susan Byerly in the North Carolina State Senate District 12 general election.[4][5]

Elections for the North Carolina House of Representatives took place in 2014. A primary election took place on May 6, 2014. The general election took place on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was February 28, 2014. Incumbent David Lewis, Sr. was unopposed in the Republican primary, while Susan Byerly defeated Thomas Ellis in the Democratic primary. Byerly was defeated by Lewis in the general election.[10][11]
