Susan L. Collins is a federal magistrate judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Indiana. She was appointed to this position on January 16, 2015, upon the retirement of Magistrate Roger Cosbey. Her current term will expire on January 15, 2031.[1]

Early life and education

Collins is a graduate of Drake University School of Law.[1]

Professional career

From 1987 to 2003, Collins was a deputy prosecuting attorney with the Lake County prosecutor's office. From 2003 to 2015, she was an assistant U.S. attorney in the Hammond office of the U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Indiana.[1]

Judicial career

Northern District of Indiana

On January 16, 2015, Collins began her service as a federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Indiana upon the recommendation of a merit selection panel and in accordance with 28 U.S.C. Section 631 and governing regulations for the selection of magistrates. Her appointment became effective upon Judge Roger Cosbey's retirement from the District Court on January 15, 2015. Her current term will expire on January 15, 2031.[1]
