Susan Lee (Democratic Party) is the Maryland Secretary of State. She assumed office on February 14, 2023. Her current term ends on January 20, 2027.
Lee (Democratic Party) ran for re-election to the Maryland State Senate to represent District 16. She won in the general election on November 8, 2022.
Biography
Susan Lee was born in San Antonio, Texas. Lee graduated from Winston Churchill High School in Potomoc, Maryland. Lee earned a B.A. in political science from the University of Maryland, College Park, in 1976, and a J.D. from the University of San Francisco School of Law in 1982. Her career experience includes working as an attorney and as of counsel in several law firms.[1]
Lee volunteered as a member of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association and the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Greater Washington; the executive director of the National Democratic Council of Asian and Pacific Americans, co-chair of the Multicultural Community Partnership, Montgomery County chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). Lee co-founded the Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies in Washington, D.C. She was a delegate at the Democratic Party National Convention in 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, and 2016.[1]

Elections for the Maryland State Senate took place in 2014. A primary election took place on June 24, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was February 25, 2014. Susan Lee defeated J'aime Drayton and Hugh Hill in the Democratic primary, while Meyer Marks was unopposed in the Republican primary. Lee defeated Marks in the general election.[2][3][4]

Lee successfully won re-election in the general election on November 2, 2010. She came in second, securing the second of three seats in the district.[5]
2006
On November 7, 2006, Susan Lee ran for District 16 of the Maryland House of Delegates, winning the second of three seats, losing to Marilyn Goldwater but beating William Bronrott, Robert Dyer, Angela Markelonis, and Mike Monroe.[6]
