First elected in 2018, I am a married mom of three adult children. My Master’s degree is in counseling and I have experience as an Operations Manager for a national graphic arts supply company and was the principle of two arts-related small businesses. My approach to the role of county commissioner is one of a public servant. It is my job to dive deeply into many complex matters, look for ways to challenge the status quo and make county government and services more accessible to to the people we serve. Whether it is big ideas like the county’s role in providing affordable housing; parks and green space; social services; and public health; or being available and responsive to constituents requests - this role is something I feel called to do and take seriously every single day. It is my hope to be re-elected and serve my third term using all of the knowledge and experience I have gained these past four years.
  • Balance. As Chair of the Economic Development Committee, I know how important our economy is in so many ways - it is part of the lifeblood of the county, it’s what fuels the engine. BUT, government is not a business. County government should serve it’s PEOPLE, and the people are the other lifeblood of the county. What government does for people is unsustainable without healthy economic conditions - so balance is key.
  • Integrity. In my view, it is imperative to maintain the people’s trust with honesty and authenticity. It is important to me to bring all that I am to the role of county commissioner. There is a LOT to learn and I am motivated by a deep desire to make a positive difference. I spend countless hours reading, researching, listening, and speaking to many people about the complex issues we face as a community, I am a trained listener and I strive to hear and see the root causes of our issues as a community and I work to address them.
  • Collaboration. As part of the nine member BOCC board, it is important for us to work collaboratively to achieve our goals. Nothing can be accomplished without a majority and having fully informed, fully participating members is critical. It is also crucial for us to collaborate with other government bodies such as city council, school board and our legislative delegation - we need all hands on deck pulling in the same direction to overcome many of our challenges.
The reason I am so passionate about my role as a county commissioner is that there are multiple areas of personal interest to me that coincide with county government. My training as a counselor is directly related to my interest in social services and mental health. It has been my absolute honor to serve as liaison to the Child Fatality Prevention and Protection Team which is made up of my favorite people - social workers. In addition, I am immensely interested in environmental sustainability and my work on the Environmental Stewardship Committee has been very rewarding, I am extremely proud of our accomplishments but of course there is much more to be done. Education policy - which for the county is the importance of proper funding - is also an area of great interest to me as I believe that education is the answer to most of our most pressing needs. Lastly, there are many, many areas of personal passion for me that connect to county government and it is imperative to focus on policy as the way to make lasting improvements. My role as a commissioner is not to be performative - that is the job of county staff. My job is to focus on how to make systemic changes that challenge our broken areas of status quo - that is through policy work.
