Susan Scann was a judge for Department 29 of the Eighth District Court in Nevada. She was first elected to the court on November 2, 2010, and took office on January 3, 2011.[1][2] Scann passed away on July 16, 2016.[3]

Education

Scann received her undergraduate degree from the University of Washington in 1968 and her J.D. from the California Western School of Law in 1976.[1]

Career

Before her election to the court in 2010, Scann was a partner at the law firm of Deaner, Deaner, Scann, Malan & Larsen in Las Vegas, Nev., specializing in real estate, commercial, bankruptcy, and creditor law. She also previously practiced law with the firms of Jones, Jones, Bell, Close & Brown and Deaner & Deaner, and served as an alternate municipal court judge for the City of Las Vegas from 1980 to 2010.[1][4]

Scann was elected to the Eighth Judicial District Court. She defeated Kenneth E. Pollock in the general election, winning 57.43 percent of the vote.[7]

2013 judicial performance evaluation

In 2013, the Las Vegas Review-Journal sponsored a survey of 902 lawyers who rated Nevada Supreme Court justices and judges located in Clark County. 82 percent of respondents voted in favor of keeping Scann on the bench. The average vote in favor of retention for all 88 judges evaluated was 71 percent.[8]
