Susan Syfert
Susan Syfert was a 2014 Republican candidate for District 14 of the Arizona House of Representatives.
Campaign themes
2014
Syfert's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[1]
Education/Jobs
- Excerpt: "Arizona needs a well-rounded workforce. High schools and community colleges are natural partners for education in the trades while we continue to encourage higher education for those who seek it. Reversing high drop-out rates is a priority. Arizona is a leader in educational choice and any assessment standards should not hinder that freedom."
Border
- Excerpt: "Arizona’s border should be open for legal trade but closed to criminal activity. Our economy is better served by improving relations and increasing trade with Mexico. At the same time, landowners below I-10 need to know that their families and properties are safe from illegal trafficking. Landowners are currently prevented from exercising their property rights of protection and the Border Patrol is hindered in their enforcement job. Arizona needs to continue to push for a resolution of border conflicts with the best interests of our citizens in mind."
Veterans
- Excerpt: "The military bases are a vital part of our economy, directly and indirectly. Our veterans are currently some of the most underserved of our citizens. As an all-volunteer military, they give/gave us the best years of their lives in hopes of bettering their own lives and ours. They deserve our best, and no less than what we are willing to give police and firefighters."
Natural Resources
- Excerpt: "As part of the Gila Watershed Partnership, I have a broad knowledge of Arizona’s water challenges. Our natural resources are vital to our national prosperity; however, the contributions of each state do not diminish their rights to determine the best use of its water, minerals and energy. Water is Arizona’s most critical resource, without water there is no life in the desert states."
