Susana Schowen
Susana Schowen is the Louisiana Executive Director of the Workforce Commission. She assumed office on January 8, 2024. Her current term ends on January 10, 2028.
Gov. Jeff Landry (R) appointed Schowen Louisiana Executive Director of the Workforce Commission on January 4, 2024 to replace Ava Dejoie. [1]
Biography
Schowen earned a B.A. in chemistry from Wellesley College in 1990, and an M.A. in physical chemistry from Columbia University in 1995.[2]
Prior to her appointment as Louisiana Executive Director of the Workforce Commission, Schowen served as Vice President of Education and Vice President for Policy and Industry for the Louisiana Community and Technical College System. She previously served from 2011 to 2022 for Louisiana Economic Development, where she worked as Director of Workforce Initiatives/LED Fast Start from 2015 to 2022, and Workforce Initiatives Manager from 2011 to 2015.[3]

Executive Director of the Workforce Commission (2024-present)
Schowen became the executive director of the state workforce commission in January 2024 following her appointment by Gov. Jeff Landry (R).
The Workforce Commission, formerly the Department of Labor, monitors employment security, provides unemployment compensation, aids with manpower evaluation and training, labor-manangement relations, and administration of the community services block grant.[4]
