Susie Morgan serves as a federal judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. She joined the court in 2012 after a nomination from Barack Obama. At the time of nomination, Morgan was a partner in the New Orleans law firm of Phelps Dunbar LLP a position she had held since 2005.[1]
Early life and education
Morgan attended Northeast Louisiana University (now known as the University of Louisiana at Monroe), earning her B.A. in 1974. She earned in M.A. in 1976 from Louisiana State University. She went on to earn a J.D. from Louisiana State University’s Paul M. Hebert Law Center in 1980.[2]

Susie Morgan was nominated by Obama to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana on June 7, 2011. She was nominated to the spot left vacant by the impeachment of Judge Thomas Porteous. Morgan was rated Unanimously Qualified by the American Bar Association. On Wednesday, March 28, 2012, Susie Morgan was confirmed by the United States Senate to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana with a vote of 96-1.[4]
