Suspended Arkansas judge defends actions at ethics violation hearing
July 30, 2010
Arkansas: On Thursday, July 29, Judge L.T. Simes testified before an ethics panel from the Arkansas Judicial Discipline and Disability Commission that he did not use his influence to reinstate a fired police chief in 2005. Simes was suspended from the bench in 2009 for a separate matter, but was then charged by the Commission that he violated judicial rules of conduct when he handled the case of a fired West Helena police chief in 2005. Thursday marks the end of the ethics panel's hearing and it now has 60 days to make a recommendation to the full commission. Simes was unopposed for re-election in May and will be reinstated in his office in January of 2011.[1]
