Suzi Oppenheimer (b. December 13, 1934) is a former Democratic member of the New York State Senate, representing District 37 from 1984 to 2013. Oppenheimer was the mayor of the Village of Mamaroneck from 1977 to 1984. In 2004, she was a member of the Special Joint Conference Committee on Budget Reform. She also served as deputy minority whip.

Biography

Oppenheimer earned her B.A. in economics from Connecticut College in 1956 and her MBA from Columbia University, Graduate School of Business, in 1958. Her professional experience included working as a security analyst for McDonnell and Company from 1958 to 1960 and for L.F. Rothschild and Company from 1960 to 1963.[1]

Oppenheimer did not seek re-election in 2012, citing a recent surgery. She stated, “When considering my responsibilities as Senator, the extensive effort that will go into rehabilitation and physical therapy following my surgery, and the added work of the hard fought campaigns I always wage, it became clear to me that I could do only two of those three important tasks.”[2]

Oppenheimer was unopposed in the Democratic primary. She faced Bob Cohen (R) in the November 2 general election. She also ran as a member of the Democratic and Working Families party.[3][4]
