My name is TJ Evans and I’m running for Apex Town Council. My career has spanned event planning, sales, fundraising, community engagement, relationship building, and program management. I currently serve as Associate Director of Development at the American Diabetes Association and am the founder of the Apex Juneteenth Celebration, an event rooted in unity, education, and honoring Black history. As a proud Apex native and graduate of Apex High School, I was part of the 2014 State Championship basketball team. That experience taught me what it means to lead, persevere, and fight for something greater than yourself. Championing Apex has always been my goal. I’m the hometown kid with a hometown vision, ready to represent and champion the voice of all our residents with transparency, integrity, and intentionality.
  • Community Engagement and Accountability I believe in genuine community engagement and full accountability. I will be a bridge between residents and local government by promoting open communication, transparency, and real collaboration. I’m committed to putting people first and making decisions with integrity.
  • Thoughtful, Responsible Growth and Economic Vitality I support thoughtful and responsible growth that aligns with our community’s values. I will advocate for economic vitality by supporting local businesses and attracting quality brands, all while protecting taxpayers and building sustainable infrastructure.
  • Youth Activation and Expanding Programs and Facilities I want to empower our youth by expanding programs, facilities, and partnerships that keep them engaged, safe, and inspired. Our younger residents deserve a voice in shaping the future of Apex, and I’ll work to make sure they have it.
I’m passionate about public policies that foster meaningful community engagement, encourage strong partnerships that boost our economy, and address concerns like housing affordability and choice, taxes, public safety, environmental sustainability, and preserving the history and unique areas that make Apex the Peak of Good Living. I believe in transparent, inclusive processes where every voice is heard and accessibility is prioritized. I’m committed to empowering youth through safety, expanded programs, and fast-track career paths. While growth in Apex has leveled off at around 4 percent over the past two years, it is still growth. With that growth comes opportunity and shared responsibility to shape a future that reflects our values.
This office holds a unique and important role in Apex because it serves as a vital connection between our local government and the people who call this community home. It carries the responsibility of ensuring that policies and decisions reflect the values and needs of Apex residents while promoting fairness, transparency, and accountability. As Apex continues to grow and evolve, this office plays a key role in balancing progress with preserving the unique character and history that make our town special. It helps maintain public trust by being accessible, responsive, and committed to serving every member of our community.
I would recommend “The Art of Community” by Charles Vogl. It’s an insightful book about the power of building strong, inclusive communities through intentional engagement and shared values. This aligns closely with my belief that good leadership comes from fostering genuine connections between people and government, creating spaces where every voice is heard and everyone feels a sense of belonging. For anyone wanting to understand my approach to public service, this book offers valuable lessons on how collaboration and trust can strengthen communities and drive positive change.
I believe the most important characteristics for an elected official are integrity, transparency, accountability, and a genuine commitment to listening. Public service is about showing up for people not just during elections but every day with humility and a willingness to collaborate. An effective leader must also be accessible and responsive, open to diverse perspectives, and committed to making informed, values based decisions. Apex deserves leadership that not only reflects the community but engages with it, works alongside it, and always puts people first.
The core responsibilities of someone elected to this office include representing the interests and voices of all residents with fairness and respect. It means being a steward of our community’s resources by making responsible, transparent decisions that promote long-term well-being. An elected official must foster open communication between local government and the community, ensuring accessibility and accountability every step of the way. They should work collaboratively with fellow officials, stakeholders, and residents to address key issues like growth, public safety, infrastructure, and economic vitality. Ultimately, the role is about serving the community with integrity, dedication, and a commitment to making Apex the best place to live, work, and raise a family.
I want to leave a legacy that God would be proud of. A legacy of consistency and continuity between how my household and community speak of me. One that insists I led with action and intentionality and that advocacy was my middle name. I pray that my legacy leaves a smile on my little boy’s face, a smile that lights up the room, and in the reflection of that light I want him to see the people of this beautiful town, and through that, my boy will feel the heart of his daddy.
Absolutely. Local government holds tremendous power that often goes unnoticed but has a direct and profound impact on our daily lives. This office isn’t just about passing laws or managing budgets—it shapes the very fabric of our community. It influences everything from how neighborhoods grow and develop, to the quality of our schools, roads, parks, and public safety. Local decisions affect housing affordability, environmental sustainability, and economic opportunities right here in Apex. Many people underestimate how much influence local government has in creating the kind of community we want to live in. I believe more residents should understand that this office plays a crucial role in shaping policies and partnerships that protect our values, enhance quality of life, and ensure Apex remains a place we’re proud to call home.
While previous experience in government or politics can be beneficial because it helps an official navigate the complexities of the system and build relationships, it’s not the only path to effective leadership. What matters most is a genuine commitment to serving the community, a willingness to listen, and the ability to collaborate with others to find solutions. Fresh perspectives can bring new ideas and energy, which are also valuable. Ultimately, effective leadership comes from dedication, integrity, and the desire to make a positive difference for the people you represent.
I believe the most helpful skills for someone in this office include strong communication and active listening, so they can truly understand and represent the needs of the community. Collaboration and teamwork are essential, as this role requires working with diverse stakeholders to find common ground and solutions. Having a heart for people and a genuine willingness to always work towards a solution are vital qualities. Problem-solving and adaptability are also important, especially as Apex grows and faces new challenges. Above all, a commitment to transparency, integrity, and serving the community’s best interests is key to effective leadership.
This office is unique and important because it serves as a vital bridge between local government and the community. It ensures that residents’ voices are heard and that policies reflect the values and needs of the people who live here. The office plays a key role in balancing growth with preserving the character and history that make our town special. It promotes transparency, accountability, and accessibility, making sure government works for everyone. By fostering partnerships and encouraging community engagement, this office helps shape a thriving, inclusive, and sustainable future for our town.
I believe financial transparency and government accountability are essential pillars of good governance. Residents have the right to know how their tax dollars are being spent and to have confidence that public funds are managed responsibly and efficiently. Transparency builds trust between government and the community, while accountability ensures leaders are held to high standards and answerable for their decisions. I’m committed to promoting open communication, making information accessible, and fostering a culture where government listens and responds to the needs and concerns of all residents.
