Biography
When he served on the school board, Mertz was a history instructor at Edgewood College. He was a member of the Democratic Party of Dane County and the former co-chair of Progressive Dane. As of 2014, Mertz had two sons who were students in the district.[1]

The Madison Metropolitan Board of Education voted unanimously on 89.7 percent of its votes between January 1, 2014, and July 1, 2014. Out of all votes recorded by the board, 94.9 percent passed.
