|In 2016, I transitioned from private practice to accept a mayoral appointment by Mayor Sylvester Turner. Confirmed unanimously by the Houston City Council, I assumed the role of Director of the City of Houston Department of Neighborhoods. My diverse professional background as an attorney and public servant uniquely qualifies me to serve as the judge of the 152nd Civil District Court.
My experiences in both fields deepen my understanding of everyday people and their experiences. Upholding high ethical standards, I prioritize fairness and maintain an even temperament. Proficient in thoroughly analyzing, interpreting, and applying the law, I make well-reasoned decisions based on both legal principles and the facts presented in each case.
- Fairness is a cornerstone of the rule of law and judges are tasked with interpreting and applying the law impartially, without favoritism or bias. I will ensure fairness in the legal process by treating everyone with respect, basing my decisions on the applicable laws and legal principles, and interpreting and applying the law without bending it to suit personal preferences.
- Court Efficiencies and Innovation At times, dealing with the legal system can be slow and confusing, leading to delays and frustration for both lawyers and those involved in legal cases. I plan to examine existing processes to find ways to make things better, remove unnecessary steps, and develop practical solutions for implementation to enhance efficiency. I also intends to harness technology to provide better access and efficiency without compromising the fairness of the legal process.
- Community Engagement In our community, there's a lack of awareness about the inner workings of the court system and the legal rights that individuals have. I am dedicated to demystifying the courthouse experience, bridging the gap between the community and the government. I will achieve this through outreach efforts, educational initiatives, and civic engagement. I will champion and pioneer programs promoting civic education, pro bono services, and resource allocation for those in need. Actively participating in relevant discussions and activities, I seek to contribute to the overall improvement of public services and legal understanding.
The second area is a lack of civic engagement and legal knowledge in communities. I aim to demystify the courthouse experience through outreach and educational initiatives, bridging the gap between the community and the government. Namely, I will champion programs that promote civic education and pro bono services to contribute to an informed and engaged community.
I also want to improve judicial efficiency by improving existing processes to remove unnecessary steps, integrate technology to provide better access and efficiency, and develop practical solutions for implementation to enhance efficiency.
