The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was March 7, 2014. Tamara Y. Johnson defeated Benedict I. Truman II in the Democratic primary, while incumbent Francis R "Fran" Millar defeated Richard D. "Dick" Anderson in the Republican primary. Johnson was defeated by Millar in the general election.[5][6][7]

Fighting for Economic, Social and Environmental Justice


Establish a Federal Agency for Descendants of Chattel Slavery

  • Establish the legal definition of the Descendants of Chattel Slavery, establish a federal agency to provide vital services to the Descendants of Chattel Slavery that will include, but not limited to, the maintenance of a national registry of the Descendants of Chattel Slavery, reparations in the form of cash payments, no interest home loans, no interest small business loans, set-aside opportunities for government contracts, college tuition reimbursement, student loan debt cancellation and funding for Historically Black Colleges and Universities.


Raise the Federal Minimum Wage

  • Raise the federal minimum wage immediately from $7.25 per hour to $15 per hour.


Medicare For All

  • Support a comprehensive, public health care program that ensures that every American has health coverage that includes mental health support, preventative and treatment measures for opioid addiction and a cap on prescription drug costs.


Public Education / Higher Education

  • Equitably support and fund our K-12 public schools, pay raises for teachers, free tuition at public colleges, universities and HBCU's and the cancellation of all existing student loan debt.

  • Restore the full protections of the Voting Rights Act by requiring preclearance (permission for changes that affect the voting process) from states that have a record of voting rights violations.


Gun Control Laws

  • Protect the 2nd Amendment
  • Expand background checks
  • Report on multiple and mass purchases
  • Close the gun show loophole
  • Strict penalties for gun dealers


Pathway to Citizenship

  • Humane and respectful treatment of undocumented Immigrants at our borders.
  • Allows Immigrants a pathway to citizenship that first addresses the needs of Descendants of Chattel Slavery and Americans who are the working poor.

  • Work to pass the Equal Rights Amendment, strengthen and protect women's rights.
  • Ensure that LGBTQ + people are not discriminated against because of sexual orientation or gender identity.
