McKay (Republican Party) ran for election to the Hawaii State Senate to represent District 7. McKay lost in the general election on November 8, 2022.

In August 2023, Hawaii Republican Party leadership elected McKay to serve as the chairwoman of the Hawaii Republican Party.[1] She served in the position until May 2025.[2]
