| “ | Advocacy Tamara believes that a student’s education should challenge them beyond the classroom. For ten years Tamara used the PTA as a vehicle to innovate an entirely new partnership between Elementary school students and the Make A Wish foundation. Through this process she helped successfully fund twelve children’s wishes and teach students the value of philanthropy and benevolence. Additionally, she worked with Middle School students to create the Challenge Week Program. Challenge Week is a State Recognized program that works to broaden a students education beyond their own world by exposing them to challenges outside their day to day experience. As a recognized leader of the community Tamara has been invited by district personal to collaborate efforts in the ongoing work for better education. She has been asked to assist with Principal interviews. She has worked on both Bond initiatives for CVUSD. She was part of the committee to design and name Los Coches Creek Middle School. She has sat on the Superintendent’s Advisory Committee, and Budget Committee. And was Chairman of the Citizens Oversight Committee on Bond Proposition D. Collaboration As a Board Member she has worked to encourage fiscal responsibility while still pursuing ways to grow and expand programs within their means. She was instrumental in bring Duel Language programs to the Cajon Valley School District. She collaborated to bring breakfast in the classroom at low socio-economic schools. Tamara considers it imperative to experience first hand the results of good programs and the shortcomings of failing programs; therefore she has personally visited every school and classroom within her district. Tamara strongly believes that the responsibilities of an elected leader of the community exceed that of just the school board. She has worked within the community to create the East County Aquatics Foundation in order to raise funds to support the new 50-meter pool at Granite Hills High School. She sits on the Athletic Board Council at GHHS. She is the Council PTA Reflections Chair and for the last two years has brought a District Wide Art Competition and Art Show to students. She is a member of the El Cajon Rotary Club, and a member of the Chaldean American Chamber of Commerce. Tamara understands the importance of creating relationships within the community in order to further support the youth. Future Plans What began as a responsibility towards her own children developed into a universal advocacy for the future of all youth; it is her driving motivation to build a better future by supporting the youth today.[5] |
