Dr. Tamara Small is a long-time resident of Butler County. She earned a Ph.D. from the University of Cincinnati in 2020. Her career experience includes working as a nurse practitioner, scientist, professor, and owning a small business. Dr. Small is a council member for two national committees at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: Traumatic Injury Prevention and Equitable Research and Partnerships with Diverse Populations Community of Practice.

• 1. Personal Journey of Resilience: From overcoming adversity as a teenager, growing up poor, and battling mental health challenges to earning a Ph.D. as a first-generation graduate, I embody resilience and hard work, driven by a commitment to serve others facing similar challenges.
• 2. Healthcare Advocacy: My personal experience with mental health challenges and as a caregiver to my mother, combined with my professional expertise as a family nurse practitioner and Ph.D. holder, fuels my passion for healthcare reform. I advocate for equitable, accessible, and affordable healthcare to honor my mother's memory and ensure no one faces similar struggles.
• 3. Community Commitment and Leadership: As a dedicated public servant and entrepreneur, I am deeply invested in addressing critical issues facing Butler County, including economic disparities, mental health, addiction recovery, and workforce shortages. My career as a nurse leader, scientist, educator, and small business owner uniquely positions me to understand the needs of the community, be fiscally responsible, and implement effective policies that will benefit Butler County residents.

Why did the county commissioner bring a ladder to the budget meeting? Because she heard the fiscal cliff was getting pretty steep!
