I am a 7th generation Hoosier and daughter of a long line of veterans.

I graduated with honors from Kokomo High School (1986) and later, Indiana University (1992) where I studied Biological and Physical Sciences. I am currently preparing to enter an online Master's degree program.

During school years, I enjoyed participating in 4-H, which I attribute to increasing my interest in learning about a wide variety of subjects, especially veterinary science and leadership, serving as club treasurer, secretary, and president several years.

In order to supplement my scholarships, I became a dedicated substitute teacher during the day while taking classes in the evening. I value the experience for two reasons: teachers are underappreciated and college expenses today are too expensive.

Before graduating from college, I accepted a position in Research and Development at a world leading producer of high performance alloys. I later transferred my employment to become a United Steel Worker as a materials handler, machine operator, and union representative.

In 2000, I left factory work to pursue other interests -- writing, training horses, and real estate sales. My writing has been published in several outlets and earned a number of minor awards.

My volunteer activities include mental health and child safety advocacy and Master Gardener Interpretative Guide.
  • Quality public education is the foundation of a stable society. It is my goal to fully fund educators and support students.
  • Rebuild rural communities by offering necessary and flexible solutions to independent farmers and agribusiness.
  • Let YOUR voice be heard! I am listening to ALL voters in order to take your concerns to Indiana's General Assembly.

Support of Rural Communities and Family Farms

Expansion in accessibility of mental health services

Support of organized labor and collective bargaining

Healthy stewardship of land, air, water, and wildlife

An elected official's most important characteristics must include honesty, transparency, intelligence, adherence to ethical principles, and the desire to listen to their constituents even when their voice conflicts with personal philosophy.
I am honest. I am a listener. I care about my fellow Hoosiers, even if we disagree about some things. In addition to earning my degree, I am self-educated in a number of subjects, including human behavior.
I was 17 when the space shuttle Challenger exploded 73 seconds into the flight. I clearly remember sitting in my Psychology class when the school principal's voice made the announcement over the intercom. I later went home and watched news coverage on TV for hours. It was very sad and surreal as I contemplated the people aboard and their families, especially teacher, Christa McAuliffe.
To Kill A Mockingbird

I first read this book as an assignment in 10th grade and it helped redirect the trajectory of my life. From the character Scout, I learned to be more fearless and be less shy. From Atticus, I learned patience and understanding. Calpurnia and Tom Robinson taught me that we must not rush to judgement about people different from ourselves. Boo Radley shows us that kindness takes very little effort and requires no acknowledgement in return. Finally, I learned that truth and the pursuit of it is essential.
1) Funding public schools so that all students have equal access to quality education, regardless of location and class status.

2) A complete overhaul of the Department of Child Services.

3) Reversing the negative growth experienced by rural communities.

4) Oversight of jails and prisons. Abolish for-profit prisons.

Not necessarily, for two reasons.

1) I believe that a candidate should be well-informed on federal and state civics to already have a working understanding of what the job demands.

2) When a person is elected state legislature, there are always going to be enough people remaining in legislative office to offer guidance. That is somewhat the purpose of each caucus electing leadership members in each chamber.

Yes. In fact, compromise is an inherent element in most of life.
