Tammy Garcia is a mother to two young children. She was born and raised in Tampa, Florida. Graduated from Blake High School before earning a Bachelor's in Psychology from the University of South Florida. She then moved to Forth Lauderdale area to attend Nova Southeastern University obtaining a Master's and ABD in Conflict Analysis and Resolution. After graduating, she lived in Virginia and North Carolina for a few years before returning home to raise her family in the Tampa Bay area. She has worked in the medical field specializing in insurance billing for 16 years. She has recently changed gears and is studying to get her paralegal certification.
  • I support moving to solar energy to make Florida energy self sufficient. As the sunshine state, we have an opportunity to be a leader in solar energy. It is financially esponsible as the cost now pays for itself within a few years. Additionally, we should be providing skilled training and incentives to make solar energy production a top industry for the state.
  • I will work to fix the unemployment system issues. The pandemic has exposed the flaws in our unemployment system and these issues need to be addressed. Whether it be a pandemic, a hurricane, a recession, whatever causing a spike in unemployment, we need to have systems in place that actually works.
  • I will support and fight for home rule. The state needs to stop putting restrictions on what localities can and cannot do. The state should not be responsible for deciding if the city of Port Richey should be abolished. Legislators from north Florida shouldn't have a say in the local government of Key West banning certain types of sunscreen. Someone from The Villages shouldn't tell a condo owner in Miami Beach that they can't rent their condo for a week. Localities should be deciding local issues and it's time the state legislators stop making those decisions for them.
In addition to the areas already mentioned, I am passionate about improving our education system and making sure our veteran teachers are paid for their experience. Also, I am passionate about keeping the Constitutional right to a trial and want to ban mandatory binding arbitration in contracts. I also will fight for equality for every person in every aspect of life.
The most important characteristic for a legislator in my opinion is the ability to listen and empathize with the people they are representing. It is only through doing this that you can effectively represent them.
In Girl Scouts I was always taught to leave a place better than how I found it. The only legacy I wish to leave behind is that I worked to do just that.
Alexander Hamilton. Yes, the one from the Hamilton musical. It is my son's favorite song so I hear it often and it gets stuck in my head all the time.
I favor a fair and unbiased redistricting process that remains neutral and favors neither party. In this great day and age of technology, we have the ability to create districts based purely on registration numbers split in a logical manner.
