I was born and raised in Stanly County and attended Stanly County Schools. I earned my BA from Wake Forest University and my MEd. from Liberty University. I am a mother of two. I have lived in Rowan County for over twenty years. I have worked for Rowan Salisbury Schools for over twenty years. For fourteen years, I taught English at the middle school and high school levels. For the last 8 years, I have been a school counselor at the high school level. Prior to entering education, I was an entry level social worker. I have spent my professional life assisting students and adults to develop skills to be successful. I am running for office to improve systems and policies so that North Carolinians can thrive and our communities can flourish.
  • I believe education is the cornerstone of democracy and the fulcrum of a community's existence. It is my mission to fully fund public schools and to pay public school educators properly..
  • North Carolinians must have employment opportunities that will meet the cost of living and allow them to enjoy the fruit of their labor as well.
  • Poor physical and mental health limit a person's ability to learn or work. North Carolinians must have quality affordable healthcare in order to thrive.
I believe a thriving community is one in which the citizens are educated, earn a livable wage and are healthy. With that in mind, my top three policy priorities are fully funding public education, increasing minimum wage and expanding healthcare. Education is the fulcrum of a community's existence. The American workforce significantly impacts our economy. It is necessary for workers to earn a wage that allows them to meet the cost of living and to enjoy the fruits of their labor as well. Poor physical health and mental health impede a person's ability to learn and to work. I am personally passionate about these three areas which are large umbrellas with numerous subparts.
The most significant historical event that happened in my lifetime that I remember was September 11, 2001. I was twenty-nine years old.
To Kill A Mockingbird is my favorite book. It is a coming of age story that explores themes of social injustice and prejudice which resembles my life experiences. It also elucidates the power of love, honor and character.
