I am a mother, a wife, and activist. I fight for justice and equality for all working class individuals that have been long neglected or forgotten. I am fighting for economic justice, safe affordable housing, equal access to healthcare including mental health and substance abuse treatment, and a science minded stewardship for the environment and climate change.
I am deeply connected to housing and economic policy because economic justice is something that has eluded myself and my family for a long time now, and it is time someone such as myself change that.
I look up to Ruth Bader Ginsburg. I look up to her because she was a trailblazer that didn't care what others thought of her and she didn't care to stand out and be different from others in every way possible. She was ambitious and driven in all that she done. She proved that juggling a marriage, children, and a career was absolutely possible for a woman, and even more so a minority woman in many people's eyes.
"The Conscience of a Liberal" by Paul Krugman. Krugman, a Nobel Prize-winning economist, explores the history of liberalism in the U.S. and makes a case for the principles that have defined myself and other Democrats for decades.
Transparency, Honesty, Integrity, approachable, empathetic, creative, and a problem solver.
I am driven, a problem solver, creative, and I go straight to the source of issues to speak with affected by the issues to seek out what they believe could be a solution or the root of the problem.
Improving the quality of life of the residents while building and improving the community each and every day.
I want to leave a legacy of fighting for the people above all else. I want to improve their quality of life and show them that elected leaders truly are here to serve the public.
I believe the first historical event that really stands out to me in my lifetime was the beginning of Operation Desert Storm. I vividly remember watching what seemed like a night vision view of missiles being launched across the sky in Iraq. I was 6 years old.
My very first job was working on my grandparent's farm as a child during the summers, and I kept this job until 2018. It was a summer only job until 2003 when I moved to their town, and then it became full time.
My favorite book, that's a tough question. I would say that I absolutely enjoyed the book The Outsiders. The book explores important issues like social class conflict, identity, and belonging, which resonate with readers of all ages. The rivalry between the "Greasers" and the "Socs" represents the divide between working-class and privileged teenagers, shedding light on the difficulties and stereotypes faced by different social groups. "The Outsiders" challenges stereotypes by showing that people are more than their social class or appearance. The novel humanizes both the Greasers and the Socs, revealing that they share similar emotions, fears, and desires. It emphasizes that struggles like family issues and personal hardships cross social boundaries. At its core, "The Outsiders" promotes empathy and understanding, encouraging readers to look beyond superficial differences and recognize the humanity in others. The novel’s famous line, “Stay gold, Ponyboy,” serves as a reminder to preserve one’s goodness and innocence in a harsh world.
I am not sure there is a fictional character I would want to be because they all seem to change and gain qualities that are not in alignment with who I am or what I wish to become.
Economic struggles have always been an ever present struggle in my life. I am not poverty stricken, but I am living week to week and making ends meet is not a small feat by any means no matter how hard I have worked.
Most of the jokes I enjoy are corny or dad jokes. What do you call a bear with no teeth? A Gummy Bear!
Down Home NC, Public School Strong Voters, Vote Common Good, and Moms Demand Action
I believe that there should be 100% financial transparency and government accountability to the public. They elect leaders to perform the functions of government and guide their communities, and they should expect nothing but complete transparency and accountability for the actions and decisions of those leaders.
