I'm Tara Cochran, and I'm running for School Board Director to serve District 2 in Enumclaw, where I've lived for 17 years, raising two children with my husband. My passion for education and deep roots in our community drive my commitment to ensure every child receives a high-quality education.
  • My education experience: With twenty years in teaching and school leadership, masters degree and National Board Certification, I am well equipped with serving on the board with knowledge about what is actually happening in the schools. I can analyze student data to make informed decisions and I can be present in the schools to support teachers and administrators. I know how to get better academic results from our classrooms. This sets me apart from the other board members and compliments the skills and backgrounds that they have.
  • My voice: Being in leadership means having courage and boldness to stand up for people and influence matters that are bigger than yourself. I ask the tough questions. I seek ideas and solutions that may take immense amount of effort, but I do not shy away from hard work. I am action oriented. Whether this is making policy changes that give parents rights back over their children, providing safety protocols for girls and boys in school, or how to fund big projects while respecting the community’s hard earned money. I will be a voice for parents and the community members.
  • My heart for service: Being on the school board is a volunteer, service, elected position. I was raised to give back to your community and help those around you. My Dad is a retired Colonel in the US Army, serving his country thanklessly. My Mom has been serving as a Red Cross volunteer for 20 years, going to aid in times of disaster to help those victims through trauma and loss. When you are raised in a family with morals and values, it is modeled to you to always care about people and help where you can. I know I can be of service on the school board because my passion and heart is in helping our schools be a great place for kids.
Every policy that deals with curriculum and what our students are learning, funding and how it is being used, parental rights not being taken away, student safety in school
The primary responsibilities of the Board are to hire, supervise and evaluate the superintendent, set the vision, mission and strategic goals for the district, review, revise and adopt policies, establish and oversee the budget, and monitor the district's progress towards their goals.
Being a Mom of two excellent children is an accomplishment that I am most proud of. Being a parent is by far the most difficult and most important thing we can do in our lives. When you look at your children and feel that deep sense of pride all the way to the core of your being, you know you have done your job well. Alongside my husband of 20 years, we have raised our children to be kind, compassionate, respectful, hard working, brave, God-loving, wisdom seeking, intelligent members of society. We did that! Being a mom is the best thing in the world.
