Candidate Connection

Tara Phelps participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on August 23, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and Tara Phelps' responses follow below.[1]

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

Accountability for all tax dollars, stable economic growth, and education funding for ALL Arizona students.[2][3]

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?

I am passionate about issues affecting our most vulnerable population - our children. Our children are the future of our state. They are the future workforce, the future legislators, and the future voters and they cannot speak up for themselves. We must provide an education and provide for their safety, first and foremost.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[3]

Ballotpedia also asked the candidate a series of optional questions. Tara Phelps answered the following:

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

The most important qualities for an elected official are integrity, common sense, a thick skin, and an understanding of the Arizona and U.S. Constitutions.[3]
What is your favorite holiday? Why?
My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving. I love being together with my giant family, eating delicious traditional and non-traditional foods, and reflecting on all of the things I have to be grateful for. Most of my favorite Thanksgiving dishes are my Grandma Downs' recipes - Five Bean Salad, fruit salad, brown sugar yams, and sage dressing.[3]
Do you believe it’s beneficial to build relationships with other legislators? Please explain your answer.
Building relationships is a critical part of the job of a legislator, including building relationships with other legislators, local government officials, and local constituents. They are all a part of the process of legislative decision-making.[3]
