White House crashers (2009)
Salahi and his then-wife, Michaele Salahi, came to fame after they crashed a dinner at the White House in 2009, while starring on the Bravo reality TV show, "The Real Housewives of D.C." The couple was subpoenaed by Congress, but they invoked their Fifth Amendment rights and refused to speak about the incident.[1]
Divorce (2011)
Salahi reported his wife, Michaele, missing in September 2011. It turned out she had run off with Journey frontman Neal Schon. Tareq filed for divorce shortly afterward and Michaele filed in December 2011. Tareq then filed for divorce a second time shortly thereafter. A judge granted them a divorce in 2012, and Micahele married Schon in 2013.[4]

Salahi unsuccessfully ran for election as Governor of Virginia in 2013.[3] He originally said he intended to run as an independent, but he failed to receive the number of signatures required to appear on the ballot. With that setback, Salahi launched a write-in campaign, saying he would run for U.S. Congress in 2014 if he did not win the governor's race.[5][6] The general election was held November 5, 2013.
