I’m a Plano ISD mom of a 3rd and 8th grader. I've been a full-time volunteer leader for the last seven years. I’m the only candidate in my race with the experience, relationships, and knowledge specific to Plano ISD that prepare me to serve. My track record of service districtwide and at the campus level demonstrates my commitment to Plano ISD, public education, and the success of all students. I’ve led with an open mind, collaboratively, and put all students at heart of the decision-making process.

Leadership Plano, Class 39 (2023) Plano ISD Council of PTAs: President (2020-22), Advocacy Chair (2022-23), Secretary (2018-20) Plano ISD Education Foundation, Board Member (2022-23) Plano ISD Future Forward Task Force, Career and Technology Education Subcommittee Chair (2022) Plano ISD Teacher of the Year, Judging Panel (2021-22) Plano ISD District-Based Improvement Committee (2020-2022) Plano ISD Student Health Advisory Committee (2022-23) Plano ISD Safety & Security Committee (2021-22) Hickey Elementary PTA: President (2017-19), Treasurer (2022-23), Vice President (2019-20), Silent Auction (2016-19) Bowman Middle PTA: Programs Chair (2022-23)

I grew up in the Kansas City area graduating from Shawnee Mission South High School. I attended Samford University in Birmingham, AL. I graduated from the University of Texas - Dallas summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in political science.
  • Plano ISD’s history is built upon collaboration between the board, district staff, parents, students, and the community. This success is due to nonpartisanship leadership that avoids unnecessary conflict that distracts us. We need to be intentionally inclusive when engaging our community and seek out different voices. Plano ISD is a majority minority district with changing demographics. We must embrace our diversity and find innovative ways to engage our families. Family engagement is key to driving student success. If we want to see academic improvements for all students, we must work with campus administrators to build family engagement plans.
  • Our teachers are overworked, underpaid, and underappreciated. As a result, we’re losing great teachers to neighboring districts, other states, and early retirement. Teacher shortages are a nationwide problem, not only a challenge in Plano ISD. We currently have 267 unfilled teacher positions. Our budget constraints caused by recapture prevent us from offering competitive compensation packages with other districts. The growing attacks on public education and the hostility toward teachers contribute to teachers leaving the state or the profession. The Plano ISD Pathway to Certification program provides current staff and substitutes with support in becoming certified teachers. We should continue to seek innovative ideas like this.
  • The pandemic highlighted and exacerbated mental health issues our students struggle with daily. I support teaching the whole child with the soft skills necessary to be well-rounded and well-grounded students. Early identification and treatment is key as well as putting social emotional learning at the center. We need to add resources in our counseling departments so our students feel like they belong and are valued. Voters approved $40M in the bond election to prioritize added safety and security measures. Every parent and every student should feel safe and welcome in our schools.
I'm an advocate at heart. I want the best for all Plano ISD students. I've spent three legislative sessions advocating with our elected officials in Austin on behalf of what's best for Plano ISD's ability to fulfill its mission. The #1 recurring issue of importance to the school district is our ballooning recapture payment. This is the payment Plano ISD makes to Austin that's been known as Robin Hood to help less financially wealthy districts across the state. The 86th Legislature passed HB3 which was intended to provide relief to our district. It did not. Our district will pay $250 million this year while we're running a $40M budget deficit. Continuing to operate in a budget deficit is not financially feasible. We need legislative help while allocating our resources in the most optimal way to benefit all students providing them future forward opportunities.

Plano ISD’s budget is built every year through a fiscally responsible zero-based budgeting process where every dollar is evaluated to determine how to best allocate it to the current needs of our students. 87% of our budget goes to payroll. There’s not much left to cut before schools and programs would have to be eliminated. I want that to be our last option.

The next board will manage the implementation of the 4 bond packages approved by the voters in November 2022. We should set a high bar for ensuring that money is spent to the maximum benefit of all students in all areas of the district.
