I grew up in the rural Wisconsin city of Ripon. I have had a passion for politics for as long as I can remember, and I worked hard in order to put myself through college where I studied Political Science and Communication. My main goal in politics is to get our nation back to a point where we can discuss important issues without it ruining our relationships with others. I decided to run for office because I wanted to see some more bipartisan work done in politics. While I ran as a Republican, I really had a difficult time choosing a party to run for as my views really could have fit on either side. In the end, I don't care what party someone identifies with, I believe we need to see beyond that because my views certainly don't fit within the lines of one party, and my experience is that most people can say the same. I am passionate about breaking down partisan barriers and I want to make my community a better place in a world where politicians care more about parties than they do about you.
  • We need leaders who care more about policies than they do about parties. I don’t care if a policy is considered Republican or Democratic, I care if it’s a good policy that is going to help people.
  • It's time for our government to work as hard as you do.
  • I am not running to serve the Republican Party of Democratic Party, I am running to serve the people of my district because that's who I represent.
While bipartisanship is of the upmost importance to me, I also believe that we need to run our government in a more efficient way, and I believe bipartisanship is the first step to doing that. We need to work to find common solutions to major policy issues. Specific issues I am interested in include: Providing better resources for educators and improving our education systems both K-12 and higher level education; Keeping taxes affordable and ensuring that our working classes can continue to see prosperity-primarily through the legalization of medical and recreational marijuana; Preserving all of our constitutional rights; Protecting our environment in order to ensure our natural land is able to last for generations to come
I believe that it can be beneficial, but it is certainly not a necessity. I do not believe all elected officials should necessarily have a political background. If they have an experienced staff that understands the process, then I believe that it would actually be more beneficial to have someone without that political experience because they will be more in touch with the people in their district, unlike some politicians who have been elected for multiple terms and have seemingly lost touch with reality.
I believe that this is only important if one is to build relationships with legislators on both sides of the aisle. If one is elected to a position and only builds relationships with their side, then they will find it more difficult to go against their party. Legislators need to either build relationships with both sides in order to hear all perspectives, or engage solely with their constituents. I don't believe parties should matter, legislators should represent their people, not their party.
I believe it is important to eliminate gerrymandering. Districts should be drawn through nonpartisan agencies overseen by a commission of legislatures with equal parts Democrat and Republican. We need to ensure that officials are being elected at the will of the people, not at the will of whichever party is in charge.
