My love for this community fuels my desire to serve in this role. I am committed to lifting the voices of all Chaska residents for a community they desire by intentionally listening, learning, and engaging. As a small business owner, wife, and mother, my unique perspective lends a collaborative hand in the important decisions that impact and benefit the growth of our community. I would like to continue being a voice for the future of Chaska that is more than a small town, but rather a hometown. Serving as a councilmember for the past 5 years has provided me with a comprehensive understanding of the City’s municipal operations, community development planning, & the financial budget/tax levy process to make informed decisions on behalf of the community. My perspective as a small business owner lends expertise in financial planning, operations, marketing, communication, customer service, & employee relations. I am committed to lifting the voices of all Chaska residents to shape a community they desire.
  • Promote Smart Growth: In residential, commercial, and industrial sectors to enhance our community and generate additional tax revenue.
  • Revitalize our Historic Downtown:We need to actively attract new businesses and support existing ones through grants /loans & collaborating with economic organizations.
  • Reinvest in Facilities: Our current facilities, built at a time when our population was 10,000, need updating to effectively serve our growing community of 30,000 & meet future demands.
I am personally passionate about economic development being a small business myself and policies that help drive a sense of community belonging.
I believe honesty, transparency, integrity, compassion, listening and commitment are important characteristics. I am a big believer in showing up and doing the work to support the community.
First, I believe listening to the feedback and desires of residents is the most important responsibility. Communication and facilitation are important as well. Knowledge in the city operations, budgeting process, & planning guidelines as well.
It is extremely tough to narrow to just one because I love to read! I would rank "Remarkably Bright Creatures" as one of the top books on my list. The story was sad and beautiful and so unique that part of it was written from an Octopus's perspective. I absolutely adored it!
The Mayor is the face of communications for the city and part of the strategic arm of the city. They facilitate the council meeting and contribute their feedback to help guide decision making. Although, they are only 1 of 5 votes so while they lead, they also are apart of a larger entity that should work together for the betterment of the community as a whole.
I enjoy our walking/bicycle trail network that runs throughout Chaska. It is a wonderful amenity and a huge draw for many of the community member who reside in Chaska. You can almost get to anywhere using the trails and it is wonderful to be out in nature.
One of our largest challenges will be the economic development in our historic downtown corridor. I believe steps are being made in the right direction to support/retain/attract small businesses in downtown Chaska. We have just finished a large infrastructure improvement project and I believe by utilizing our economic partners such as the Chamber and Downtown Business Alliance, we can boost our local economy with retail events and tourism opportunities.
Our current mayor that is retiring has endorsed my campaign.
I believe that it is extremely important to maintain a high level of transparency in all government action and to also have the City's budget be something that is easily accessible for viewing.
