Candidate Connection

TAYLOR SAPPINGTON participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on April 10, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and TAYLOR SAPPINGTON's responses follow below.[2]

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

1) Fight for expanded access to healthcare

2) Turning around infrastructures and local government funding
3) ending the corruption and sleaziness that dominates the State House[3][4]

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?

Because it is a matter of life and death, I am passionate about getting the citizens of Ohio the healthcare coverage they have earned. Ohioans work hard, pay their taxes, and follow the rules. They should be able to go to the doctor or hospital without worrying about being denied care or leaving with thousands in debt.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[4]

Ballotpedia also asked the candidate a series of optional questions. TAYLOR SAPPINGTON answered the following:

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?

I respect Bobby Kennedy very much. Not just for his positions that fought for working Americans. But also for his demeanor, inspiration, and willingness to admit when he made a mistake.[4]
What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
Trustworthiness and work ethic.[4]
What was your very first job? How long did you have it?
My first job was serving tables at 15 and 1/2 years old at the Coffee Cup restaurant in my hometown of Nelsonville. I worked there for a year.[4]
What is something that has been a struggle in your life?
The biggest struggle in my life was overcoming the loss of two individuals very close to me to suicide. I wish they were with us to this day. I have made it my life's mission to raise awareness for suicide and mental health issues and pass legislation that would help those suffering.[4]
What process do you favor for redistricting?
A non partisan process that involves a committee of non legislators. Politicians should not be drawing their district lines.[4]
If you are not a current legislator, are there certain committees that you would want to be a part of?
Healthcare and infrastructure/utilities are my main interests and would be happy to serve on those committees.[4]
Is there a particular legislator, past or present, whom you want to model yourself after?
I believe Debbie Phillips did a great job for SE Ohio and I would be lucky to become half the legislator she was during her years in the State House.[4]
Are you interested in running for a different political office (for example, the U.S. Congress or governor) in the future?
No. I am interested in making a firm impact for the citizens of Appalachia and Ohio.[4]
