What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

Health Care Judicial Retention Elections Education

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

I am a retired dermatologist. I am interested in public health policies that keep people healthy and treat everyone fairly. I advocate for for keeping individuals under the age of 18 out of commercial tanning booths. I am for tobacco 21 laws that prohibit selling tobacco products to those under the age of 21. I feel that those who self pay their health insurance premiums with after tax dollars should be able to fully subtract those premiums from gross income before taxes are calculated in order to enjoy the same tax breaks that those with employer provided health insurance enjoy. I had some bad experiences with the legal system (divorce) and feel that reforms in the legal system are needed. This includes judicial retention elections, how judges are initially appointed to the bench, and state commissions to evaluate judges. A simple thing such as requiring judges to run "motion day" by appointment is needed. The process of divorce has to be modified in order to reduce conflict. Educational achievement has to be improved in Michigan.

What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?

I remember seeing the historic flood in downtown Flint, Michigan in 1947 caused by the overflowing Flint River. I was four years old at the time.

What happened on your most awkward date?

Not sure what happened on the date. The girl was not interested in a second date.

What is your favorite holiday? Why?

I do a lot of gardening during the growing season. I spend a lot of time on the computer and cell phone reading about things. I have written a number of articles for my web site concerning my opinions on various topics.

What is your favorite thing in your home or apartment? Why?

I do a lot of gardening.

What do you perceive to be your state’s greatest challenges over the next decade?

Raising the level of per capita income and eliminating poverty will be a big challenge for Michigan. Unfortunately, Michigan has fallen a lot over the past 30 to 40 years, and now is near the bottom. Due to low per capita income less tax revenue is raised. Therefore, many Michigan government services are inadequate. Also, more has to be devoted to safety net programs that could be spent elsewhere if less was required for the safety net.

What process do you favor for redistricting?

The process of redistricting every ten years has to be fair and no bias should be built into the process.

2016

A document posted to Golden's campaign Facebook page highlighted the following issues:[7]

  1. Health Insurance: I will make all self paid health insurance premiums paid with after tax dollars a subtraction from income item on the Michigan income tax return (MI-1040).
  2. Health: Individuals have been harmed in this community and elsewhere (ie. Dr. Fata, Flint water, Legionnaire's Disease) due to substandard performance of state agencies. Better safeguards are needed. Drug deaths, doctors, abortion, and guns are other health care issues.
  3. Education: Education must be individualized to each child in order to realize one’s full potential.
  4. Taxes: Republicans will control the state tax structure until 2019. I favor a graduated state income tax due to Synder's tax breaks for corporations. Most will pay less income tax.
  5. Amend Michigan Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)
  6. Liquor Laws: Change outdated laws and regulations controlling the sale of alcoholic drinks that add unnecessary overhead to the price of the product.[8]
