|- I am running running for my generation, your kids and grandkids. Life has become unaffordable, and not only the American Dream, but the Montana Dream will be lost to our younger people. Whether it’s housing options, where the Montana Dream of owning a plot of land has now changed to an overpriced one bedroom apartment, or the overall cost of living where Montanans are feeling it at the pumps and aisles…something needs to change! Property tax cuts and “new family” tax cuts will be a large part of my campaign. Property taxes have almost doubled for everyone, and new families cannot afford to survive with their children, let alone thrive.
- Preserving our public lands for our future generations is one of the most important gifts we can bestow. In HD 92 our district holds some of the important conservation areas and public lands. From the Bob Marshall Wilderness and Holland Lake to the Blackfoot and Clark Fork rivers converging, we are the guardians of a very special part of this state and country. As a member of the Swan Valley Community Council I fought against the overdevelopment of Holland Lake Lodge and brought in legal council for our Valley to give them all possible options in saving one of the last best places. I promise to promote legislation that combats the current murky process that surrounds the selling and leasing of our public lands.
- Our infrastructure in HD92 is failing. Whether it’s bridges and roads in rural areas or city roads and bridges , the Missoula County area needs funding for our infrastructure. I will fight for more state allocations to these, as well as hold the Federal Forest service accountable for maintaining county roads to public lands. The current grant system is broken, and if the FS wants to promote and market the use of OUR public lands while making money off special use permits, leases and more, they need to be held more accountable for the costs of bringing more people to these areas.
Our public lands both state and federal will also be one of our largest obstacles. With almost every valley in Western Montana now being sold as prime locations for second homes and resort stays (from large corporations), we are the last line of defense against the lease and sale of our public lands. If we continue to allow out of state and even out of country money to overdevelop our public lands, future generations will never get to experience the Montana we know and love.
