Wire fraud charge (2023)
In February 2023, Brown was indicted on 13 counts of wire fraud. Her husband, Christopher Scott, was also indicted on nine counts of wire fraud.[1] The indictment alleged that Scott and Brown submitted multiple fraudulent applications for COVID-19 relief funds on behalf of companies that did not exist.[2] Scott pleaded guilty to one charge, and he was sentenced to prison time and ordered to pay restitution.[1] In an interview with Daily Herald, Brown said she was not guilty and planned to fight the charges in court. "If I can’t fight for myself, then I can’t fight for the people in my district," Brown said.[1] Brown has a trial date of June 22, 2026.[1]
