Tennessee: The Tennessee Judicial Nominating Commission has narrowed the field of applicants that were sent to Governor Bill Haslam down to three potential judges. Derek Smith, Michael W. Binkley, and David Henry Veile are the finalists to fill the Twenty First circuit court vacancy, which was created by the departure of Judge Jeff Bivins who was recently promoted to the Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals. Smith currently serves as the Williamson County Deputy District Attorney whereas Binkley and Veile are engaged in private practice at the firms Schell, Binkley and Davies and Lowery, Lowery & Cherry, PLLC respectively.[1]
