Terence P. Kemp was a federal magistrate judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio. He was first appointed to this position in September of 1987 and he was reappointed in 1995, 2003, and 2011.[1]

Early life and education

Judge Kemp was born in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. He received his A.B. degree in ethics and political philosophy from Brown University in 1974, and his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1977.[1]

Career

Judge Kemp began his career in 1977 as a law clerk to U.S. District Judge Malcolm Muir of the United States District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania. In 1979, he entered private practice in Huntingdon, Pa., before joining the Columbus, Ohio-based law firm of Baker & Hostetler in 1980. He worked as an associate in the litigation department until 1986, when he became a partner in the firm. He was appointed as a federal magistrate judge in 1987. He is also an adjunct professor at Capital University Law School and the Moritz College of Law at Ohio State University, teaching courses on federal courts, depositions, and discovery.[1]
