Teresa Milio Birge was the District 32 representative on the Anne Arundel County Public Schools Board of Education in Maryland. She was first appointed to her seat by Gov. Martin O'Malley (D) in 2008 and was retained by district voters in the election on November 4, 2008.[1] She was reappointed by the governor to a second five year term in 2013 and was successfully retained again on November 4, 2014. She resigned on October 8, 2017.[2]

Retention election

Adult members of the board are subject to retention elections at the general election following their appointment. Birge's second retention election took place 16 months after her re-appointment at the general election on November 4, 2014. She received approval from over 78 percent voters, preserving her seat on the board until 2018.

In 2013, Birge was re-appointed to the Anne Arundel County Board of Education by Gov. O'Malley.[3]

2008

Appointment

On June 18, 2008, Gov. O'Malley appointed Birge to the Anne Arundel County Board of Education for her first term in the District 32 seat. Tricia Johnson was also re-appointed to the board on that day for her second term in one of the three at-large seats. The appointment of Collin Wojciechowski as student representative for the 2008–2009 school year was also confirmed by the governor. Wojciechowski was elected to the one-year term by his peers in the Chesapeake Regional Association of Student Councils (CRASC), but the appointment of the student representative is always subject to confirmation by the governor.[4]

Retention election

Birge's first retention election took place five months after her appointment at the general election on November 4, 2008. She received approval from over 78 percent voters, preserving her seat on the board until 2013.
