Campaign website
Toriseva’s campaign website stated the following:
“ |
Consumer Protection: My primary focus as Attorney General will be on consumer protection. Every household, every individual, and every business is a consumer in West Virginia. West Virginia businesses can not afford to crippled by an Attorney General’s failure to prosecute violations of existing laws. In fact, there are many laws that only the Attorney General can enforce for the benefit of all citizens. I will fight relentlessly to protect all consumers in this state. Crime: To suppress crime, I support, and have fought for, higher police wages, safer working conditions, additional training, and to supply our police officers with the most state of the art equipment and gear available. Increasing wages and improving training decreases crime and increases public safety. Corporate misconduct, like the unleashing of opioids on our citizens, goes unchecked when West Virginia’s laws are not enforced by the Attorney General. Those that dump pills in West Virginia, including Big Pharma and any others that aid this activity, will not avoid being held fully accountable in my administration. Transparency: There should be full transparency of government officials and their actions. Transparency protects the process and keeps corruption at bay. An Attorney General should promote transparency herself and enforce the laws that require it of others. There are existing laws, like FOIA and Sunshine Laws, that mandate transparency for elected officials and government administrations. I will ensure these laws are fully enforced. Communities: I support local communities’ right to protect individual rights and wages of their citizens. Protecting families builds strong communities. The backbone of communities are the working people, their families, and small businesses. When you protect them from criminal, powerful, or corporate abuses, you protect communities. When the communities are protected, they can thrive on their own. They do not need the government to do anything else. Energy/Coal: West Virginia is an energy state, and everyone should work cooperatively with the industry for the benefit of all. We must, however, enforce our laws and not allow industry to treat West Virginia like it is a mere source of labor. Our natural resources should make all of our citizens rich. Other energy states have shown us that this is possible. Second Amendment/Reproductive Rights: I am pro woman. I am pro-choice. I am pro Second Amendment, or as some like to say, pro-gun. I support all of these things for the same reason: These are issues the government should not decide. These are independent rights of individuals in a free society. No one wants the government in their doctor’s office or their gun safe. No one is free who cannot control her own body or who cannot own a gun to protect herself. The government should not tell the population how to live. It is for the people to tell the government how the Government will work for them. Government works for the people and must not infringe on individual rights. I will support individual independent rights and freedoms as your Attorney General.[2] |
