Recall reports

An effort to recall Terra Lawson-Remer from her position as the District 3 representative on the San Diego County Board of Supervisors that began in September 2021 was defeated on May 13, 2022, when supporters turned in less than 400 signatures.[1][2] To get the recall on the ballot, supporters needed to collect more than 40,000 signatures by May 12, 2022.[2]

Lawson-Remer assumed office on the five-member board on January 4, 2021, after winning the seat in the general election on November 3, 2020. She received 58.1% of the vote and defeated incumbent Kristin Gaspar.[3]

Recall supporters

The notice of intent to recall included the following grounds for recall:[2]

Since taking the Oath of Office, Terra Lawson-Remer has pushed the agenda of special interests, lobbyists, and other outside entities; while refusing to listen to concerns of local constituents. Her policies and voting record go against the interests of struggling small businesses, families, and the constitutional rights of citizens. We need a public servant that will bring the community together to serve all the People of San Diego County, not just those that donated to their campaigns. Her divisive partisan rhetoric will continue to do irreparable harm to the County of San Diego if she remains in office. She has made it clear that she does not believe in accountability to her district or the hard-working People, Taxpayers, and Families of San Diego County. Therefore, she must be removed from office.[4]

Recall opponents

A spokesman for Lawson-Remer's office responded to the recall effort, saying:[2]

This appears to be another attempt driven by far-right Trump supporters to overturn the results of the 2020 election so they can push their anti-science agenda and waste millions of taxpayer dollars in the process. Supervisor Lawson-Remer is proud to have been supported by an overwhelming 17 point landslide among voters last year, and will continue to focus on investing in our District 3 communities, protecting our environment, and helping our region’s small businesses and working families succeed.[4]
