I grew up on a farm in Southern Minnesota. Lived and worked on the farm and neighboring farms for the first 20 years of my life. I have lived in Oregon for 40+ years. Married to Janice for 40+ years. We have 2 adult children. Hobbies are bird watching, photography, kayaking, biking, etc. From my education, training, career and experience in engineering and science, I have a strong grasp of technical and financial issues in both the public and private sectors. As elected candidate from District 15, I intend to represent all of my constituents. I start with facts and look at both sides of an issue. I will strive to listen to those I represent and be fair and balanced. I will not disappoint.
  • I feel strongly about the need to protect and preserve Oregon’s environment. Climate change threatens our agricultural, marine, and forest resources. Wildland fires are destroying homes, lives, and communities as well as Oregon’s beauty and natural resources.. Solving these problems involves reducing greenhouse gas emissions, speeding the transition to renewable energy, and enhancing resilience. These measures can’t wait.
  • Health Care is a right, not a privilege. To this end I support a single payer heath system. This includes Women’s reproductive rights and mental health issues The intervention of Mental Health Professionals (1) in our schools for our young people is important to their development and (2) it is one of the keys to solving the homeless problem. The economy works when workers are paid a living wage. Unions make that a reality. Health care workers should have the right to strong representation like any worker class.
  • Affordable housing and homelessness have become major issues. We need to make it easier to build more affordable housing. We owe that to the low and middle income folks and that means many of our young people. And it makes for a strong economy. Our own human kindness demands that we tackle homelessness with affordable shelter solutions and mental health treatment.
Environment involving Climate change, Species Diversity and the burgeoning Plastic pollution proliferation. A better form of heath care including assuring Pro-choice for women. Fair labor practices. Affordable Housing while protecting our farm and rural lands.
I look up to everyone. I don't know anyone who does not possess some qualities that I should emulate. I do look up to my younger brother.
Integrity and honesty, moral fiber, Trust science, seek facts, listen, be available.
I seek truth. I listen. I respect science and facts. I listen.
Represent all your constituents. Work for a common good and that means looking at all sides of an issue. Stay in session. That is what you were elected to do
Tipped over a cupboard in my mother's pantry trying to climb up and reach jam jars. They had to lift it off me. My mother freaked because the jam was red and she could not determine where i was bleeding. I was not.
I worked as a laborer on neighboring farms in Minnesota at a very young age.
Most any well written history book
I should have been more focused in my youth.
Of course. Much more can be accomplished when legislators get to know each other.
The existing balance of powers seems appropriate to me. In true emergencies action may be needed before a full legislature can be convened
Local Teamsters, Linn County and Benton County Democrats, League of Conservation Voters, Association of American University Professors, 3.14 Action
Environment, Health care, education
These are good values that stand on their own merit. Transparency because those we represent who are interested should be able to know what their government is doing. Government accountability because resources never go as far as the needs to which they could or should be committed.
