I grew up in a small, mountain town. I came to Winston-Salem to attend law school at Wake Forest, and I've spent most of my adult life in North Carolina. I put my law degree to work advocating for women, children and families. I worked directly with at-risk youth while living in a group home for teenage boys. I have spent the past 15 years helping students pursue their dreams of higher education.

I have been active in serving this community for the past 18 years. I co-founded the Piedmont Earth Day Fair and subsequently Piedmont Environmental Alliance, a non-profit that is building a healthier, more economically vibrant and environmentally sustainable community. I served as PTA president at a Title I school in Winston-Salem, and I have worked for a just and equitable community as a volunteer on the Board of Forsyth Futures, and on the Women's Leadership Council of the United Way.

We need to send legislators to Raleigh who truly want to work together across party lines to provide good jobs, affordable health care, quality and equitable schools, freedom from gun violence, and clean water and air - the building blocks for healthy communities and a vibrant economy.
  • As a single mom to a daughter with a chronic illness, I know how important access to affordable health care is. The average cost for health care in North Carolina is $8,015 per year, making it the eighth most expensive state for health care in the United States. Health care costs were out of control before the pandemic, but the pandemic has made things worse. That's why I will take on special interests and fight to reduce health care costs for everyone.
  • Every child deserves quality education regardless of their zip code. I will fight for full funding for public schools and raising teacher pay to at least the national average.
  • We need an economy that works for everyone, not just those at the top - that's why I'll fight for working families. We need to stop corporate handouts and instead invest in education and job training programs. We need to support small businesses and restore unemployment benefits. I will fight to lift up every community in the 31st District by creating jobs that pay a fair wage, address structural inequality and inequity, fight for working families, invest in affordable housing and tackle poverty.
I am a longtime advocate for clean air and water and a sustainable environment. I will support investment in renewable energy and green technologies to grow the economy, create the jobs of the future, and combat climate change.
