2016

The following issues were listed on Baker's campaign website. For a full list of campaign themes, click here.

  • Jobs and the Economy: The economy should remain a top priority for every member of Congress. Our economy is not back to where it should be. I think we all realize this. The economy that is important to everyday Americans is much more than the stock market. It’s about the security and financial stability of finding full employment, and it’s about earning enough money to make ends meet. The burdens placed by government on both individuals and businesses does nothing to alleviate these problems.
  • Government Spending: Individuals, families, and businesses all must balance a checkbook and stay within a budget to remain solvent. How is government different? Debt is not a bad thing. Many people take on a mortgage to buy a home for their family. Who hasn’t had a car payment at some point in their lives? Government must spend wisely, because it, too, can become overburdened and collapse in financial ruin.
  • National Security: I believe that National Security is the most fundamental and essential roles of any government. As a member of Congress, I will make sure that the Commander-In-Chief of the United States of America has all of the tools necessary to ensure the absolute protection of Americans. We must take the fight to the enemy and ensure that the evil they exude has no foothold on the United States. We must ensure that the Men and Women who honorably serve to support and defend our freedom have what they need to do the job we ask them to do.
  • Education: As a teacher, education will of course be a priority. We should not take a one size first all approach to education. Every student is unique, something which Common Core and Race to the Top fails to recognize. In Congress, I will use my experience in the classroom to implement policies that cater to the individual needs of students, and which lessens the unrealistic demands placed on teachers. I know what works, and I know what doesn’t.
  • Second Amendment: I am a Lifetime Member of the NRA. I have always been a strong advocate for the second amendment, and without a doubt, will continue to be as a congressman.

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Maryland

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
