- I worked for Pine County where I served for 35 years retiring when I became a county commissioner. As a county commissioner for the almost 4 years doors have been opened for me to serve in ways I would have never imagined. From working with our state representatives to replace the SSIS system our employees must work on which just does not work keeping them from helping our families in crisis to working with tribes finding ways to keep families together and building a better community which can only be done when we are willing to work together. I do know that I would not have been able to open these doors on my own and thank God every day for this blessing allowing me to serve in this way.
- Out of home placement has been proven in many cases to continue with services through the years such as probation, jail time, divorce, drug use and so on. If we can help people early in their crisis, I believe we will see stronger families and communities, less drug use, less people in our jails and save lives. As a taxpayer this will also help us reduce our cost of services keeping taxes down which is a win for everyone. Helping our residents through public health, positive programs for our youth such as 4H and youth groups to juvenile services when poor choices are made are vital. Helping all people in the beginning when things are starting to spiral is crucial for our families, our community.
- Working with mental health is something I feel very strong about and have chosen to help as a leader at Hope for Mental Health in our church. If you have never had a bad day consider yourself blessed as I do not know of anyone who has not dealt with depression, anxiety, loss of hope. You have been told to not worry about it and definitely do not talk about it. This is NOT true, you are not alone and it is very important you know you are worthy to be heard and loved. Many times substance abuse becomes an out for these feelings which is causing broken families, hurting children and an emptiness that is crying for help. There are many people who want to help you to get out of this rut. Please call your Health and Human Service Department,
