Candidate Connection

Terry Robertson participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on March 27, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and Terry Robertson's responses follow below.[2]

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

1) Repeal Obamacare

2) Build the Wall
3) Term Limits[3][4]

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?

Activist liberal judges, voter ID, balance budget amendment, 2nd amendment, getting rid of the Dept of Education on the federal level, abortion. Liberals/Progressives have discarded the Constitution and are reshaping this country into a socialist country. I will fight to stop that. I believe in the government our founding fathers set up - a Constitutional Republic.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[4]

Ballotpedia also asked the candidate a series of optional questions. Terry Robertson answered the following:

Is there a book, essay, film, or something else you would recommend to someone who wants to understand your political philosophy?

The Constitution and the Declaration of Independence.[4]
What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
Honesty, Character, Principles and a backbone to stand for what you believe[4]
What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?
Working class, family man and I am strong in my Faith.[4]
What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?
Protecting the country, reducing the size of the government and protecting our freedoms.[4]
What is your favorite holiday? Why?
Thanksgiving. Spending time with family. Nothing is owed or expected, we get to sit and enjoy a large meal.[4]
Do you believe that it’s beneficial for representatives to have previous experience in government or politics?
I believe it is more detrimental. The more experience makes them career. We need term limits to stop career politicians.[4]
What do you perceive to be the United States’ greatest challenges as a nation over the next decade?
$21 Trillion debt and its still growing. This will be the downfall of the country if it is not stopped and dealt with.[4]
Do you believe that two years is the right term length for representatives?
No[4]
What are your thoughts on term limits?
I am in favor of changing the term to the same as the President - Two four year terms.[4]

2016

Robertson listed the issues below on his 2016 campaign website.[5]

  • Limited Government: "Government needs to be reduced. The government has too many employees, too many laws, too many regulations, too many departments. Elite politicians have taken so much power and authority that is meant for the states to have. I firmly believe in the 10th Amendment."
  • Balanced Budget: "No More - no more spending bills, bailouts, continuing resolutions or deficit spending budgets. Enough is enough - time for accountability. Politicians have spent us into so much debt that it's not even funny. We must have a balanced budget amendment that includes a provision to pay off our debt. No more sending money to countries when we can't even pay our own debts. I will gladly shutdown the government until they understand - we can't afford every socialist program. I know more Americans are realizing that when the Government is shutdown - we keep living our lives and we don't need them as much as they say we do. We also get to keep more of our freedoms and our money when they are not passing more laws."
  • Military: "I STRONGLY support our military and its men and women who put their lives on the line for our freedom, everyday. Yet too many times they are treated poorly and the sacrfice they make not fully regarded or honored. This needs to stop. If America falls, the entire world falls-- Our military MUST have the technology, equipment and manpower necessary to complete the job, and to be able to fight two land wars. We MUST also take care of our veterans, many of whom have serious health issues due to their service to our natio-- Healthcare for them isn't a gift, IT'S OWED TO THEM. We MUST fix the Veteran's Administration (VA) and get rid of all the dead weight who refuse to properly do the job they are paid to do. ( Want to know what Government run healthcare looks like?? Take a look at the VA)"[6]
  • Second Amendment: "To say I support this is an understatement. This issue was settled over 200 years ago and I will vote to keep it settled. "Shall not be infringed" is not something that's up for debate. No more bans - "assault weapon" is just a Trojan horse for the liberals."
  • United Nations: "We need to be out of the UN. We are a sovereign nation, they have no authority over us and do not have our best interest at heart. We need to kick them off our soil as well. No more paying for them to come stay here."
  • Federal Judges: "Our country is not to be ruled by unelected, unaccountable men and women in black robes, yet that is what we have when a single federal judge can overrule the will of the people of an entire state. These radical, politicized judges, typically progressive liberals, are effectively legislating from the bench, and more and more considering international law in their decision making. This includes the Supreme Court as well as Appellate courts. Lifetime appointments for Supreme Court judges needs to be reconsidered, or at least a defining of the Constitutional wording of "during good behavior" so that judges who rule in ways which damage the country can be removed. ANY judge that does not uphold the Constitution should be impeached and removed."
  • Tax Reform: "Our current tax code needs to be completely scrapped and replaced with a FLAT tax. The IRS needs to be reduced to about 5-10% of its size. We should be able to file our LIMITED taxes on a post card. Strip the IRS of its abusive authority. We can solve so many problems with fixing the tax code but career politicians won't and use it to push class warfare. They hold deductions over our heads and keep playing games."
  • Abortion/Right to Life: "Life is sacred and begins at conception. Everyone has a right to life including the unborn. No baby deserves a death sentence and nobody has the right to kill an unborn baby. The Supreme Court got it very wrong here and this needs to be corrected. Isaiah 44:24"
  • Healthcare Insurance: "Government has no right or authority to force ANYONE to buy anything, including healthcare insurance. I support repealing Obamacare/ ACA and I oppose replacing it with the current Republican proposed replacement. There are effective ways for government to make health insurance more affordable and excessible [sic] without the government sticking its nose in what should be a private matter. Government needs to get out of the healthcare business and let the free market work. If you want healthcare- you pay for it. We already have programs in place to help those that need it and are unable to afford it."
  • Marriage: "This is an institution given by God - not the government. It is between one man and one woman. I do not believe the government has the right to be involved. Matthew 19:4-6A"
  • Religion: "Freedom OF Religion, NOT Freedom FROM Religion. As I stated before, Separation of Church & State is to protect the Church, not strip us from our Constitutional right to worship the way we see fit. It is not unconstitutional to carry a Bible or pray in school or government. Christians pay tax dollars just like everyone else."
  • Term Limits: "I whole heartedly support term limits and believe we must rid ourselves of career politicians. One way of doing this would be to follow the Presidential terms - two, four year terms in the House or two, four year terms in the Senate."
  • Immigration Reform: I will only consider immigration reform after two things happen: Secure the border. Building a fence 5% of the way IS NOT SECURING THE BORDER. Deport all illegal immigrants. If you came here illegally, you are breaking our law and are a criminal. You do not deserve to be rewarded with legal status or handouts."
  • EPA: "Everyone wants clean air and water - that's just common sense. BUT, the EPA is just as much out of control. Their power/ authority needs to be stripped from them and given back to Congress. Everything they want to implement needs to go through Congress first. We need to shrink this department down to about 25% of its size."
  • Energy: "Drill here, drill now. Produce from our own oil. Use our resources. The more independent we are, the less the Middle East can dictate anything to us."
  • Welfare Reform: "50% of this country should not be getting a hand-out from the government. A security net is meant to help people get back on their feet, not cripple them and make them dependent on the government. I am all for drug testing and work programs if you are receiving tax dollars."
  • Capitalism/Free Market: "I do not support STATE run capitalism. Government should not be picking winners and losers. Government did not build this great country. It was hard working men and women without an over bearing government."
