Campaign themes

2015

Spayer highlighted the following goals on his campaign website:

As a classroom teacher of 34 years, he has first-hand experience in Peoria City Schools as well as those in Peoria County.

Having been a fulltime educator in both self-contained and fine arts classrooms, he understands the day-to-day operations of educating children.
He knows what it means to be held accountable for student achievement and discipline.
Fine arts as a cross-curricular tool for learning, and searching out valid alternative ways of meeting success in the classroom are prime issues to Mr. Spayer.
His children attended District 150 schools, providing Terry with a parent’s perspective of Peoria education. Terry’s wife is also a teacher, and they are doting grandparents. He truly cares about District 150 students.
Goals include:

Advocating for teachers and administrators to receive disciplinary support.
Parents and teachers working cooperatively to encourage students to follow a path of positive behavior. This will, in turn, increase student achievement.
School board members becoming active participants in each of the schools in order to understand the reality of education in District 150.
Terry Spayer is well equipped to support students, teachers, and parents in the educational process. He fully understands what is necessary to create an environment that is conducive to learning. He has a talent for listening intently, thinking globally, and is willing to work cooperatively with other board members. It has been a long time since the School Board had a member that was a classroom teacher. Mr. Spayer’s presence on District 150’s School Board of Education would be a major asset to Peoria! We look forward to you endorsing Terry Spayer for the District 3 School Board position.

Sincerely,

The Committee for Citizens for Terry Spayer[9]
