Texas Democrats recommend three judges for federal seat
July 14, 2009
Texas: The Texas Democratic congressional delegation has recommended three candidates to President Obama for appointment to fill the vacancy on the Western District of Texas created when William Furgeson took senior status. The recommendations are judges Catherine Torres-Stahl and Karen Pozza, and attorney Sonia Rodriguez.
Torres-Stahl is the district judge for the 144th District in Bexar County.[1] Pozza is the district judge for the 407th District in Bexar County. Rodriguez practices civil law in San Antonio.
All of the candidates "must still gain the support of Republican Senators Kay Bailey Hutchison and John Cornyn, who have their own judicial selection committee and can block any candidate," but Torres-Stahl is said to be the early favorite.[2]
