Texas Supreme Court suspends Judge William Adams after viral beating video

Texas: Arnasas County Court at Law Judge William Adams was suspended by the Texas Supreme Court yesterday. The paid suspension will be in effect until the Texas Commission on Judicial Conduct completes an investigation into a 2004 incident in which Judge Adams admittedly beat his daughter with a belt for downloading music and games from the Internet. A video recording of the beating went viral after being released on the Internet in late October. With over 6.5 million views on Youtube, the brutal footage caused an uproar and has opened a new chapter in the national discussion over spanking.[1]
Judge Adams reportedly stepped aside on his own volition until the investigation is over. The Supreme Court's order explains that the judge "voluntarily agrees to a temporary suspension from office, with pay."[2]Judge Adams, while admitting to the actions in the video, has maintained his innocence. Commenting on the incident he said "In my mind, I haven't done anything wrong other than discipline my child after she was caught stealing."[3] The Supreme Court's order reiterates that Adams "does not admit guilt, fault, or wrongdoing."[2]
