My name is Thad Schumacher, and as a local pharmacist, small business owner, and former chair of the Wisconsin Pharmacy Examining Board, I have spent my career ensuring the well-being and safety of our neighbors.

Over the past decade I have taken care of the greater Madison community through my independent pharmacy. I have worked to increase access for patients with transportation challenges through free delivery. I have fought to preserve bodily autonomy by distributing Plan-B emergency contraceptives at cost after Roe v. Wade was overturned, and providing gender affirming care for our trans neighbors. When I see a problem in my community, I take action to solve it. During the pandemic, I organized pop-up vaccine clinics for essential workers and undocumented people who were denied vaccines elsewhere. When I saw partisan attacks on the right to vote I used my pharmacy's delivery vehicles to drive voters to the polls for free. To combat rising gun violence, I partnered with community leaders to buy back over fifty guns off of Madison's streets.

Serving the community as a pharmacist for over a decade, I have seen firsthand the struggles faced by so many in our community. I am running to take action and tackle problems from skyrocketing healthcare and housing costs, to attacks on queer and trans youth and democracy. I believe my experience taking care of the people of Madison, and serving in state government has prepared me to represent the people of district 77.
  • I have a deep understanding my community. Built up over a decade of taking care of my neighbors, I have seen firsthand the struggles people face. I believe that politics must begin with listening and empathy.
  • While other's talk, I take action. I believe that to solve our most difficult problems, we need solutions that go beyond words. Throughout my career, I have worked to find unique solutions to advancing progressive priorities from voting rights to reproductive health. I plan to take this same problem solving approach to the state assembly.
  • I have almost a decade of experience working in Wisconsin State Government. As the chair of the Pharmacy Examining Board I was unanimously confirmed twice by the Wisconsin State Senate. In this position I worked with lawmakers and the executive branch to combat the opioid crisis, expand access to vaccines, and protect patient safety from Republican attacks.
I am most passionate about healthcare policy, particularly with reguard to healthcare costs, prescription drug pricing, and consumer protection in the healthcare space. I believe that we need to address the rise of corporate monopolies in the healthcare industry and return the focus back to the patient.
As a first generation community college student, I was drawn to pharmacy because it offered the opportunity to provide personalized care to people in my community. My pharmacy practice is rooted in empathy and action. Only by listening and acknowledging the struggles people face, can we understand how to solve them. This applies both in healthcare and in government. I believe my ability to listen, empathize, and take action will make me a successful officeholder.
If elected the first bill I would introduce would be an amendment bill protecting bodily autonomy. This bill would begin the process of amending the state constitution to protect the right to make decisions about one's own body without interference from the government. This would include protections for reproducive rights, contraception, fertility care, and gender affirming care.
