Thaddeus Kirkland (Democratic Party) was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, representing District 159. He assumed office in 1993. He left office in 2016.

Kirkland (Democratic Party) ran for election to the U.S. House to represent Pennsylvania's 5th Congressional District. He lost in the Democratic primary on May 15, 2018.

Kirkland previously served as a Democratic member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, representing District 159 from 1992 to 2016. Kirkland did not seek re-election to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 2016.

Biography

Kirkland earned his B.A. in Communications from Cheyney University in 1991. He then attended Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary. His professional experience includes working as a Youth Services Director, as a Sunday school teacher, as a Community Service Coordinator for Crozer Chester Medical Center, as an Associate Pastor for the Community Baptist Church, as a counselor for the Elwine Institute from 1984 to 1988 and as a counselor for the Crozer Chester Medical Center from 1988 to 1992.

Elections for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives took place in 2014. A primary election took place on May 20, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was March 11, 2014. Incumbent Thaddeus Kirkland was unopposed in the Democratic primary, while Michael Ciach was unopposed in the Republican primary. Kirkland defeated Ciach in the general election.[5][6][7]

Kirkland ran in the 2012 election for Pennsylvania House District 159. Kirkland ran unopposed in the Democratic primary on April 24 and defeated James Schiliro (R) in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012. [8][9]

Kirkland won re-election to District 159 in 2010. He defeated Tina Johnson in the primary election, receiving 2,042 votes while Johnson received 869. Kirkland defeated Republican William Brown in the general election which took place on November 2, 2010.[10]
