Thaddeus "Toby" Yurek III moved to Henderson in 1988 and has considered Nevada home ever since. Toby joined the Henderson Police Department in 1995 as a Police Officer, serving for 20 years and rising to the rank of Lieutenant. During his time with the Henderson Police Department, Toby completed his master’s degree in Criminal Justice and went on to pursue his Juris Doctorate from the William S. Boyd School of Law at UNLV. After retiring from the police department in 2015, Toby focused his career on helping first responders who have been injured or killed on the job. Toby serves as general co-counsel for the Injured Police Officer’s Fund (IPOF) and as a Judge Pro Tempore for the City of Henderson Municipal Court. Toby has also served as President of the Governance Board of Lake Mead Christian Ministries and Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Hope International University. Toby, along with his wife, Carrie, and three sons, TJ, Tyler, and Trey, are active members of Hope Church Las Vegas. Toby seeks the opportunity to serve his community in a new role by representing District 19 in the Nevada State Assembly.
  • Public Safety - The safety of our state is my top priority. I will fight to ensure our law enforcement is fully equipped with the tools needed to keep our communities safe.
  • Economy - I will work to revitalize our economy by encouraging policies that assist small businesses and fight to keep our taxes low.
  • Education - I will strive to find achievable solutions that require accountability from our school officials and school choice opportunities for our families.
I am passionate about protecting our Constitutional rights. Our individual freedoms must be protected. Recent reforms by the majority party have damaged small businesses and Nevada’s families. We must reclaim the governor’s emergency powers and return rightful power to Nevada’s people. I commit to protect our citizens from government overreach and hold our leaders accountable to the rule of law.
A political candidate should not expect to be elected and go to Carson City to learn who they are and what they believe. Anyone choosing to run for office should already have a strong sense of self and be fully grounded in their personal convictions, with the integrity to stay true to self. Along with this integrity, an elected official should keep an open mind to hear other perspectives and pursue common ground with other legislators.
With twenty years of law enforcement experience and nearly fifteen years of experience as an attorney, I have the knowledge and expertise to both understand the law and effectively craft legislation to meet the needs and challenges of Nevada. I have called Nevada home for most of my life, I have raised my three sons here, and I am a small business owner. I have served my community as a police officer and I am ready to serve my community as their legislator.
My first real job after graduating from college was with the Henderson Police Department. I am the third “Thaddeus” in my family to serve in law enforcement – my grandfather served in Minnesota and my father served with LAPD. I was honored to work beside these amazing men and women in blue for twenty years and fill a variety of roles – Community Policing, Criminalistics, Honor Guard, Bike Patrol, Off-Road Patrol, and, my favorite, as commander of the Tactical Response Bureau overseeing SWAT and K-9.
I am passionate about leadership, and one of my favorite leadership books is "The Five Dysfunctions of a Team" by Patrick Lencioni. This book encourages constructive debate, common priorities, accountability, and focusing on team results instead of individual ambition.
Yes, I believe that relationships between legislators are vital to the work of government in America. Relationships are built on a foundation of trust and respect. To effectively work together we have to trust each other and respect each other’s differing perspectives and positions on issues. When these types of relationships are formed, then legislators can truly work together to find common ground and develop solutions to solve our state’s problems.
One of the most enjoyable and impactful activities I have participated as a candidate has been meeting the citizens of my district. On my very first day of walking in a Henderson neighborhood, I was fortunate to meet a woman whose story broke my heart. She is a grandmother who is caring for her grandkids after losing her military son to suicide. He suffered from PTSD and was successfully treating with medication until COVID hit. His doctor’s appointments were cancelled, and he was unable to get his medication. These are the COVID tragedies that do not show up in statistics – they are unnecessary losses from overreaching mandates.
I believe that “compromise” is the wrong word to characterize the change that needs to take place on both a federal and state level to solve our nation’s problems. What is truly needed is a willingness of legislators to communicate with one another in an attempt to find common ground. If elected, I have the ability to stand strong in my convictions with a listening ear to hear other perspectives and an open mind to attempt to find that common ground with fellow legislators and work together to develop viable solutions to solve our state’s problems.

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Nevada

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
