Obamacare Repeal
- The House passed a budget resolution to begin rolling back the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, by a vote of 227-198. Nine Republicans joined every Democratic member of the House to vote against the budget resolution. The nine Republicans are Justin Amash (Mich.), Charlie Dent (Pa.), Brian Fitzpatrick (Pa.), Walter Jones (N.C.), John Katko (N.Y.), Raul Labrador (Idaho), Thomas Massie (Ky.), Tom MacArthur (N.J.), and Tom McClintock (Calif.). Of the nine Republicans who voted against the resolution, some cited the lack of a replacement plan as the reason behind their vote, while others criticized the bill for growing the federal debt. The next step in the effort to repeal the ACA is for two Senate and two House committees to draft legislation repealing parts of the healthcare law that affect the federal budget. The Republican plan to replace the ACA has not been put forward yet, but it is likely to be similar to the Restoring Americans' Healthcare Freedom Reconciliation Act of 2015. The legislation proposed repealing parts of the ACA, but it was vetoed by President Barack Obama. Read more about the bill here.
