The 2014 Ohio primary elections were held on May 6, 2014. It was a quiet primary election for state executives; among the six state executive offices there was just one competitive primary, with two tickets contesting the Democratic nominations for Governor and Lieutenant Governor. With the outcome of this sole race in little doubt, the stage is now set for these close races and hard-fought general election campaigns.
The only other disputed outcome was whether four third-party candidates would get the 500 write-in votes they needed to gain access to the November ballot. We will not know whether these candidates succeeded until all the write-ins are counted.

In the Democratic race, Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald overcame perennial candidate Larry Ealy as anticipated. Republican incumbent John Kasich was unopposed in the primary. Green Party challenger Anita Rios was trying to get onto the November ballot but we do not know yet if her efforts were successful.
If Rios was unsuccessful, then the Green Party will cease to exist as an official party in Ohio after this election cycle because it will be impossible for their governor candidate to receive the votes necessary in the governor's race. Because the Libertarian Party of Ohio does not have a candidate for governor, it already faces this situation.[1] The former Libertarian candidate for governor even took his efforts to qualify for the primary to the Supreme Court to no avail. The legal case is still in progress.
