What would be your top three priorities, if elected?
Stopping illegal immigration, protecting Second Amendment rights, and stopping wasteful government spending
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
Illegal immigration is a public safety hazard and a moral hazard. We've all seen the tragedies in the news - illegal immigrants who have been protected by the Sanctuary State law commit crimes against innocent Americans. We have a moral duty to protect Americans from crime, and to protect the future of America. Immigrants who come to the United States legally and in good faith start their lives as Americans with respect for the rule of law. A hundred years ago, my great grandfather was one of these good faith immigrants. He, and the other immigrants who came to America legally, built the America we know today. If immigrants are coming to the United States today without respect for the rule of law, what will America look like in another hundred years? As an American and as a father, I believe it is our duty to stop illegal immigration, for the future of our country.
Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?
Theodore Roosevelt, my namesake. President Roosevelt felt strongly that immigrants who come to America ought to pledge their loyalty to the United States. Roosevelt also laid the groundwork for productive, sustainable use of our natural resources.
Is there a book, essay, film, or something else you would recommend to someone who wants to understand your political philosophy?
Theodore Roosevelt's "America for Americans" speech
What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
As an elected official, you represent every person in your district, not just the folks who voted for you or gave you money.
What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?
I'm a businessman, not a career politician. If we keep doing what we've always done, we'll get what we've always gotten. Sacramento needs a change.
What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?
Safeguarding California by stopping illegal immigration, protecting the Second Amendment, and cutting wasteful spending.
What legacy would you like to leave?
I would like my children to have more opportunity than I do.
What was your very first job? How long did you have it?
I was hired in my father's office for a summer, shredding paper in a windowless basement, for minimum wage.
What is your favorite holiday? Why?
Christmas: because the whole family comes together in one place.
What was the last song that got stuck in your head?
"In Hell I'll be in Good Company" by the Dead South. I'm a big bluegrass fan.
What do you perceive to be your state’s greatest challenges over the next decade?
Illegal immigration
Do you believe it’s beneficial to build relationships with other legislators? Please explain your answer.
As Republicans, we need to work together to help get other Republicans elected elsewhere in the the state.
